Comment from Chairman, Tony Woodward
‘ Consistency and stability are rare strengths in football clubs at all levels. I am particularly pleased to be able to re-appoint Richie Bourne and Ellis Langford for the Hellenic Premier League campaign 2009/2010. Great progress was made last season in assembling the nucleus of a squad that with just a little strengthening can have a top six position as a realistic ambition.
The re-appointment of Peter Hogan and Paul Wilkins as the Reserve Team management, is equally important in ensuring progression from the strong emerging Youth set-up, into the 1st team for local players. Hopefully this coming season will see the Hellenic League at last take Reserve team football seriously, and provide a properly structured and consistently fixtured Hellenic Reserve League set-up.
As the first ‘green shoots’ of grass on the two new additional pitches at AlfredianPark begin to emerge, we continue with our declared ambition to integrate Youth football into the Club. Under the Youth Directorship of Roger Goodchild, three youth teams will be accommodated within the Club next season. The management is proven and qualified, and is early evidence of the long-term benefit that will be gained from the Grove and Wantage Charter Standard Community Football Partnership.
The all-conquering Veterans, whose success in Cup and League this season was phenomenal, remain under the guidance of Fred Bint and Glynn Austin. This means of re-engagement with the Club for ex-players, adds another dimension to the extended community that is Wantage Town F.C.’
