The FTL Futbol Hellenic League.

Saturday, 31st January, 2009.

Premier League.

Kidlington avenge home defeat.

Wantage Town F.C.  0  (0)    Kidlington F.C.    2 (1)

Kidlington avenged Wantage’s win earlier in the season at Kidlington, as they overcame a lacklustre Wantage at Alfredian Park. Wantage gifted Kidlington’s evergreen duo Jimmy Deabill and Danny Wise the space that they needed to finish clinically in each half, Deabill netting in the 21st minute, as one side of the Wantage defence disappeared. Wise took his opportunity in the 66th minute, chipping the ball over the debutant Wantage keeper Daryl Sims, again benefiting from a scarcity of defensive cover. In between the Kidlington goals, and after, Wantage huffed and puffed, pinging the ball unproductively around midfield, but unable to create clear cut chances.

There was always going to be a element of disjointed play as Wantage gave home starts to new boys, Sims in goal, Alex Welch on the wing, and later in the game, striker Sean McKeon. Wantage enjoyed the lion’s share of the possession, but were unable to make the final pass tell, particularly in the second half when Kidlington defended in numbers. With Wantage’s growing unavailable list including first team regulars Gary Swann, Matty Horsell, Gavin Jones (all injured), Tom Rowe (banned), Rob Durrant (Afghanistan) and Tom Malton (Austrailia), there is an element of rebuilding to be done.

A difficult time ahead for Manager Richie Bourne, as he seeks to keep Wantage out of the danger zone, preparing for the midweek clash on Wednesday at near neighbours, Shrivenham.

A note of thanks to Paul Wilkins, whose planned afternoon of supporting the home side changed as he took the line for the second half, as Referee Daniel Tomkins retired injured at half-time.

Team.    Daryl Sims, Liam Illsley, Andy Wallbridge, Adam Learoyd, Sam Belcher, Liam McCullough,

Alex Welch, Danny Allen, Danny Keen, Nathan Hall, Ellis Langford.

Subs.     Sean McKeon, Paul Day, Richie Bourne.

Thought Wantage played really well, kept the ball, missed chances, Kidlington had 3 chances took 2 of them caused by individual errors, new boys did very well, fitted in well, , new striker nearly scored a couple, plus penalty appeal turned down, no need to talk about relegation Wantage will finish above mid table
