Reserves V Henley Reserves
Permalink

First time i've seen the reserves for a while so there were a few faces there i did not recognize. I got to say i was so darn cold i didnt know what to do with meself.

Anyway good result & considering we were under the cosh for a good part of the game i thought. Even when Henley went down to 10 they still kept the pressure on. I think Alex kept us in the game a couple of times with some good strong keeping. No's 8 & 10 i thought played very well (sorry don't know the names). Some good moves in midfield, played nicely to the front.  Some great chances on goal (should have took um) could have seen us 3 up. Still 1-0 got the points. Just need to push out from the back faster to ease the pressure i think. Well done lads, good result.

Regards, Will

Hi Willie,

Nice to seee you and a few others at the game today.

It was a strange old game today, we created some great chances and hit the woodwork 3 times but Henley kept coming back. Well worked goal between Stu Morrison (5) and Andy Goodchild (10). Great to see so many local lads turning out for Town. So many youngsters, apart from Broady(3) being the old head, the next oldest was Paul Broadis (8) at 23. Good performances through out the side on a very heavy pitch.

A couple of excellent saves from Lynchy kept a cleam sheet, but Andy Woodhouse (2) made a couple of well timed tackles. Great battling from Tom Rowe(9), Jack Daley (7) and Andy Goodchild up front but the man in the middle Stuart Morrison (5) was outstanding. New boys Stu Lucas(6) Ollie O'Hanlon(4) and Adam Wise(11) all played their part.

I thought we deserved the points, a well worked goal, some great saves and defending but for the woodwork and 2 disallowed goals ( they were both correct decissions) we could have made life easier in the final 5 minutes.

Good to see Dougie helping out the lads, plus young Jake Rowe and James Hicks managed to get a few valuable minutes on the pitch.

Dug out Dave

I play for henley town reserves and was the player that was sent off. i agree with most of your comments apart from the remark that you deserved to win the game. I felt that you were a good side but we dominated the game from the moment i was sent off. If not for a moment of stupidity and some harsh decsions from the ref i felt that we have won out comfortable winners. im looking forward to the return match

Dismissal's at this level rarely have the debilitating effect that is often seen at higher levels, for the simple reason that the full strength side rarely has the skill to exploit the advantage to its fullest, whereas the side which has been weakened will quite often raise their game in response to the dismissal.

No point in arguing the rights and wrongs of the dismissal ( I would imagine that will be done elsewhere) but judging from the reactions of the Henley players who seemed as panicked as the defenders, I'm pretty sure that the corner kick was'nt taking in quite the manner that was expected.

A good game on a very cold day.

I am sure the game at Henley will be every bit as entertaining as the game on Saturday.

Although there were yellow cards flashing around it wasn't a dirty game and the heavy pitch was the main reason for the clumsy rather than malicious tackles. We are trying to recover from a shaky start to the season and after good results against Kidlington and Henley we are growing in confidence and look forward to each game.

Thought we played just well enough to steel the points, pos could of ended a 3 all draw.

Henly missed a few good chances and we hit post and crossbar.

As for the sending off, i`m sure the ref could off used a bit more common sense and had a word with player with regards to his remarks to the linesman and also telling the linsman to stop his part in coaching from the touchline.

But in the heat of a game its hard not to get involved even when running the line, telling defenders to get out and when they leave attackers unmarked, just cant help it!!
