A new season and GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE PLAYERS AND STAFF AT WANTAGE FC for the forthcoming season especially to all the people in the background who also help to stage football at Wantage's premier football club. Should be a good season methinks.

With the chairman ill at home with flu it was left for the team to do the talking, after a very bright start with the front 2 causing the Almonds a few early scares with there pace. It settled down with Gavin and Sam having a good game on both flanks and the rest of the team working as a unit. With Wantage attacking down the slope Rich Claydon broke away from the opposition to be hindered in the penalty area by the Almonds keeper, penalty given and cooly converted by Rich  1 - 0, after what seemed like 3 minutes we gave away another free kick just outside our area which resulted in one Almond player standing on his own with no challenge, easily converting the equaliser "lessons to be learned" Again we took the lead 2 - 1 with good build up play and equal to anything the Almonds threw at us. Again we did not learn from the earlier goal we gave away another free kick just outside our box and it resulted in another goal 2 - 2.  we were put under severe presure for the last 20 minutes and were down to 10 men as Liam Illsley was sent off for a second yellow " impeding the ball from a free kick"  he was running in the opposite direction. In the dying minutes we were very unlucky not to have snatched a winner except for the brilliant save of the Almond keeper. Overall a very enjoyable  1st game of the season and a good platform to build on, thought we were excellent against a very good Almonds side that will always test the opposition who never stop running.
Line up from Simms,Rowe, Swann, Copp, Belcher, Malton,Jones, Illsley, Claydon, Langford, McKeon, subs used Guy, Webb,McCullough,  4 YELLOWS AND 1 RED.
Thought overall we deserved a point for our endevior but the Almonds will be more dissapointed for not getting all 3. The Alfredian fruits are blooming and i can sense a very good season so watch out all the favourites for the title as this team will upset many a hope this year.
